There are a range of internships across various industries available to high school students in Idaho. In this blog, we’ll list 10 of the best internships for high school students in Idaho!

Program Dates: Multiple cohorts throughout the year

Eligibility: Students who can work for 10-20 hours/week for 8-12 weeks. Open to high school students, undergraduates, and gap year students!


Ladder Internships is a selective program offering high school students the chance to intern with high-growth startups across diverse industries like tech, health, AI/ML, marketing, and more. Partner startups, led by experienced founders from top firms and accelerators, provide real-world projects for interns who work closely with both a manager and a Ladder Coach. Interns receive personalized training in communication, time management, and other essential skills, with additional group sessions held alongside peers. This virtual 8-week internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in a startup environment.




Location: Virtual

Cost: $2,490

Application Deadline: December 15, 2024 for the winter cohort

Program Dates: The start date for the winter cohort is January 5, 2025

Eligibility: Open to high school students who have prior experience with AI/ML or have completed a Veritas AI program 


The AI Internship Program by Veritas AI is founded and run by Harvard graduate students. Through the 8-week internship, students have the opportunity to work with VC-backed startups on real-world AI/ML projects. Students work directly with mentors from Harvard, Wharton, Google, Microsoft, McKinsey & Company, and more. This program is a great opportunity for students who have prior experience with AI/ML and are looking to gain real-world exposure to a career in the field. Students get a chance to network with industry professionals, work closely with company leadership, and receive a letter of completion from the company at the end of the internship. 




Location: Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, ID

Fee/Stipend: Paid internship (exact amount varies by project)

Application Deadline: Early 2025

Program Dates: Typically in June

Eligibility: Rising high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old and have a minimum GPA of 3.0


The INL High School Internship program lets high school students experience hands-on research at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). This internship is targeted toward students who are interested in STEM disciplines, especially areas like energy, environmental science, and national security. Under the guidance of INL professionals, you will work on meaningful projects, develop technical skills, and gain insights into career paths in STEM. The program also fosters team building, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.




Location: Idaho State Museum, Boise, ID

Stipend: $500 in 2 payments

The GEM Youth Education Programs provide Idaho students with learning experiences focused on the state’s unique history and heritage. EnergyMag Internships immerse students in the energy sector, offering hands-on experience in renewable energy, sustainability, and policy. Through real-world projects with industry professionals, you will explore topics like solar and wind energy, energy storage, and climate change mitigation. Available in multiple locations, with some remote options, these internships help students build critical thinking and technical skills for careers in energy and environmental fields. The AIMI Summer Research Internship is a research-intensive program for students interested in artificial intelligence in healthcare applications. Focused on research projects, this internship offers a chance to work under the guidance of faculty at Stanford at the intersection of machine learning, healthcare, and medical imaging. This internship will allow you to take your technical skills to the next level and expose you to AI-driven healthcare innovations. The program also helps develop your critical thinking, with activities and team projects preparing you for careers in both academia and industry.

The HOIST Program is an academic summer enrichment opportunity specifically designed for high school Native American students. At this week-long residential program at the University of Idaho, you will engage in activities focused on STEM, leadership development, and cultural experiences. Hosted by the Native American Student Center in conjunction with the University of Idaho Tribal Relations, HOIST is designed to inspire and prepare you for college and careers by nurturing your cultural identity and supporting your academic growth. All participants receive free programming, rooming, meals, and other program activities.

Eligibility: High school juniors and seniors who are at least 14 years old


This internship offers a unique chance for high school students to explore interdisciplinary research remotely. You will work on research projects under the supervision of Stanford Compression Forum students, staff, and faculty. Research areas include fields like psychology, neuroscience, the arts, philosophy, technology, engineering, and information science. The program aims to emphasize the interconnectedness of STEM and the humanities. 




Location: Various locations across the country or remote 

Eligibility: High school students

Dates: 6-8 weeks, June to August

Stipend: Varies by internship, $500 for some projects


With an acceptance rate below 5%, Spark SIP is a competitive internship opportunity that allows you to learn from industry professionals. The program offers internships across a range of fields like data engineering, software engineering, machine learning, and more. Spark SIP requires you to be able to work full-time (30-40 hours per work) for 8-12 weeks throughout the summer. To learn more about this program, check out our full guide here

Eligibility: Current high school juniors and seniors who are in good academic standing, authorized to work in the U.S., and permanently live in an eligible location

The Bank of America Student Leaders Program gives 300 high school juniors and seniors a chance to complete a paid summer internship at a local nonprofit organization. The program includes a combination of work experience and leadership skill-building. The program ends with a week-long leadership summit in Washington, D.C., where you can network with nonprofit leaders and attend workshops on how to create social impact. This eight-week internship is a solid introduction to community service and leadership, giving you the skills to create positive change in your community. If you’re interested in pursuing independent research, consider applying to one of the Lumiere Research Scholar Programs, selective online high school programs for students founded with researchers at Harvard and Oxford. Last year, we had over 4,000 students apply for 500 spots in the program! You can find the application form here.


Also check out the Lumiere Research Inclusion Foundation, a non-profit research program for talented, low-income students. Last year, we had 150 students on full need-based financial aid!
