Virtual leadership programs are a solid opportunity for high school students to develop essential leadership skills, gain industry exposure, and build connections, without committing to an in-person program. These programs often mirror the rigor of college-level academics while offering hands-on projects, mentorship, and networking opportunities with professionals. Additionally, they can be a more affordable way for you to explore different career paths compared to in-person leadership programs.


If you are passionate about leadership, an online program can provide a structured experience that enhances both academic and professional growth. However, you should know that not all virtual leadership programs offer the same level of prestige or selectivity as an in-person, fully-funded program!

Harvard’s Pre-College Program in Business and Leadership provides high school students with an introduction to core business concepts in a collaborative learning environment. With small class sizes of 12 to 18 students, you can participate in interactive discussions, develop problem-solving skills, and practice diplomacy. 


Under the mentorship of Harvard-affiliated instructors, you will analyze business articles and explore leadership principles. You will present your findings at the program’s conclusion. This structured course is an excellent choice for those looking to gain insights into business leadership while receiving personalized mentorship.

The Young Founder’s Lab is a real-world start-up boot camp founded and run by Harvard entrepreneurs. In this program, you will work towards building a revenue-generating start-up that addresses a real-world problem. You will also have the opportunity to be mentored by established entrepreneurs and professionals from Google, Microsoft, and X.


Apart from building the start-up itself, you will also participate in interactive classes on business fundamentals and business ideations, workshops and skill-building sessions, case studies, panel discussions, and more.The program is an excellent opportunity to delve into the world of business in high school and have a space to explore multiple theoretical as well as practical frameworks that lead to a successful business. The Brown Leadership Institute provides high school students with an opportunity to become socially responsible leaders who advocate for change both locally and globally. You will explore complex social issues, strengthen your leadership skills, and develop actionable solutions through the creation of an Action Plan to implement in your communities. 


Courses focusing on topics like gender equity, educational access, law and social movements, and social entrepreneurship will help you gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Upon successful completion, you will receive a Digital Certificate of Completion and a Course Performance Report for two-week or longer courses.

The Young Leaders Training Programme is offered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
